3.6.1.22 University of Arizona
Focus / Concentrations: Theoretical
Department / College: Department of Linguistics
You might be tempted to call the University of Arizona “MIT – Southwest.” Of the 25 faculty members listed on their homepage, 8 of them come from MIT. But since this is the MIT-Southwest, 5 of the faculty members also come from the University of Arizona.
In keeping with this theme, the UofA offers not only disciplined training in theoretical linguistics, but also in Native American and Anthropological Linguistics. According to the latest NRC rankings of Linguistics programs that offer PhDs, the University of Arizona is ranked 9th. A new NRC will updated in the next few years.
