UC Santa Barbara centers its research on linguistic structure, language use, and functional explanations. When I wrote to them about pragmatic research, they indicated I may able to create a niche working with other departments, but that my research wouldn’t be fully supported. I appreciate their honesty. Goleta would be a fantastic place to study. That is if you can get anything done in such a beautiful place.
