4.4.1 NSF — Deadline: Early November

The NSF (National Science Foundation) fellowship provides you with a whole bunch of money (about the same as an MIT stipend, a lot more than a UCLA stipend) for three years. Many linguistics students have gotten NSF in the past, so don’t think it won’t happen just because you’re in a somewhat non-sciencey field. If you don’t get NSF, don’t fret, you can apply again in your first year of grad school (and probably will be forced to do so). Website: http://www.nsfgrfp.org/
