4.5.4 Is it a bad idea to get a recommendation from a non-linguistics professor?

with one comment

If you want to do psycholinguistics or computational linguistics and want a recommendation letter from someone in your psychology or computer science department, go for it. Otherwise, you shouldn’t get a recommendation from a professor in a field outside linguistics unless you absolutely can’t find three linguists willing to recommend you. In that case, it had better be someone who knows you very well and who you’ve done research with. On no account should more than one of your recommendations be from a non-linguist.
