When I initially asked my professor for advice on the top SLA programs, she listed Ohio State University, the University of Arizona, and the University of Hawaii. Immediately, I pictured myself studying on a beautiful island while immersing myself with the pidgins and the creoles. My early email threads with the professors were very positive. But then they stopped. I must have been too gushing in my interest for the program because I am at a loss why the professor I was emailing stopped writing.
